I brought the paper documents to the post office. I had already purchased a US Postal Money Order for the filing fees:

The money order was written out to the New York County Clerk, where the Summons and Verified Complaint were sent for filing. The $275 fee covered the cost of the Index Number ($210) and a Jury Trial Demand ($65).

I went to the Post Office, and they guaranteed the documents would be received by Tuesday, November 7. They weren’t actually taken into the mailroom until Wednesday, November 8.

There was a holiday last Friday. My submission is over 200 pages long, so I figured it would take some time to get processed.

I called earlier this week, and the New York County Clerk’s Office said they were really backed up because of the holidays and staffing issues. I told them I would be patient.

I called back again later this week and got through to the Electronic Filing Department. As a help to them, yesterday I uploaded the documents to the EDDS (Electronic Document Delivery System). I received a confirmation that the Summons and Complaint were also received digitally.

As of 5:00 pm on Friday, the document was not uploaded to the New York e-file system, and no Index Number has been assigned. I expect that to happen early next week.
