Orange County Family Court Scandal: Judge’s Threats Against Mother Over Media Coverage Become Reality

Newly scheduled court hearings in the Nolan v. Nolan case suggest that previous judicial threats of contempt, mistrial, and sanctions were not mere courtroom rhetoric but are now unfolding as reality.
Judge Kimberly A. Carasso of the Superior Court of California, County of Orange has scheduled multiple upcoming hearings, echoing those held in January:
March 25, 2025 – Two domestic violence matters, a trial-setting conference, and an RFO (Request for Order) on modification of custody, visitation, and support.
March 26, 2025 – Two domestic violence matters, a trial-setting conference, and an RFO on custody, visitation, and support.
April 7, 2025 – Two domestic violence matters, a trial-setting conference, and an RFO on custody, visitation, and support.
Orange County Family Court Scandal: Courtroom Outburst and Judicial Retaliation?
These hearings follow a pivotal evidentiary hearing held the week of January 27, 2025, where, for the first time, medical professionals testified about abuse, neglect, and the traumatic brain injury suffered by Tar Nolan.
This testimony was expected to be a turning point in the case.
Judicial Misconduct and Gag Orders?
Allegedly, a dramatic outburst from Judge Kimberly A. Carasso was triggered by this reporter’s coverage of the case. The judge reportedly threatened to declare a mistrial, hold parties in contempt, impose sanctions, and strike expert witness testimony—raising serious concerns about judicial impartiality and press freedom.
As previously reported, the judge’s reaction appears to have been directly influenced by media scrutiny, with her threats now materializing in court proceedings. This raises further concerns about judicial retaliation, due process violations, and attempts to silence public scrutiny in a case already riddled with procedural irregularities.
Exacerbating these concerns is a blanket gag order imposed by Judge Carasso, which effectively silences one party in the dispute. Broad, indefinite gag orders are highly unusual and may violate constitutional protections on free speech and due process.
Orange County Family Court Scandal: A Controversial DVRO and ADA Concerns
A temporary Domestic Violence Restraining Order (DVRO) has remained in place against Tar Nolan for over two years, allegedly based on significant misrepresentations made by the father in his initial application.
The prolonged nature of this “temporary” order raises serious legal and ethical questions. Typically, DVROs are short-term protective measures, requiring clear, substantiated evidence before being extended for years. The circumstances surrounding this case suggest a potential abuse of legal mechanisms to gain leverage in the custody battle.
Additionally, the prolonged DVRO and gag order may violate both the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the First Amendment by restricting her ability to advocate for herself, access necessary accommodations in court proceedings, and speak publicly about her case.
