A recent decision by New York State Supreme Court Justice Ronald Castorina Jr. is sending shockwaves through the legal community and beyond. Living in Florida, Simonetti, who retired in 2003 after a valiant service during the 9/11 attacks and their aftermath, has been struggling with deteriorating health. His condition, compounded by Factor V Leiden and Factor V deficiency, puts him at grave risk of developing life-threatening blood clots and bleeding complications.
Despite these alarming medical risks, Justice Castorina, known for his uncompromising approach in matrimonial cases, has remained indifferent to Simonetti’s plight.
The judge’s decision to issue a bench warrant threatens Simonetti’s health. It forces him to bear the financial burden of transporting himself to New York, estimated to cost around $6,000.
Parlato highlights Justice Castorina’s seemingly harsh stance, especially in dealing with law enforcement officers. He has made similarly stringent decisions in past rulings, like ordering a retired officer to surrender his World Trade Center Victim’s Compensation Funds during a divorce case.
