Nice article, Richard, a good read. Let me preface by saying I am a loyal Trump supporter and have been since he announced in 2015.

Let me start with this where you write: harnessing a socialist petro-state’s crude to torpedo a communist strongman’s bankroll.

If Putin was a communist strong man, it would stand to reason that he would be running a communist nation which he is not. Communism ended in Russia in 1991 when the Soviet Union collapsed. The nation has adopted a market economy with private ownership of the means of production, a hallmark of capitalism. and I also don’t believe that Russia is on the verge of collapse, and I don’t believe that cheap oil is going to affect Russia economy to a great extent. The Russian ruble has significantly outperformed the US dollar in 2025, rising 45% against it since January, making it the world’s best-performing major currency.

I think Trump is a very smart businessman, and I think he realizes that there is a real potential For both the United States and Russia in joint ventures, which Trump and Putin have discussed. One of them being to develop the rare earth minerals in Ukraine once a piece deal is reached. they have also talked about constructing a 70 mile tunnel under the bearing straight, which would connect the two countries. The proposal, costing an estimated $8 billion, aims to reduce traditional construction costs (projected at over $65 billion) by using tunneling technology from Elon Musk’s The Boring Company.

I still think John McCain’s assessment of Russia is correct. It’s a gas station masquerading as a sovereign nation.

Even though I despise John McCann, his assessment is fairly accurate. But even so it served Russia well when oil was close to $100 a barrel when the Ukraine war started?

$ 40-a-barrel oil ends the Ukraine war and turns the roaring Russian bear into Boo-Boo.

You’re dreaming Richard, that’s not going to happen. Putin now controls about 20% of the Ukraine, and he’s not going to give it up. I believe that the entire world is suffering inflation as well as Russia and the United States. Russia will be on the last Nations to go, bankrupt, and all we can do is hope to see the United States isn’t right behind them
