Young Girl Missing: Caught in the Web of Family Court Corruption?
Advocacy Group Claims Florida Family Court 'Kidnapped' Honor Student Maya Moore for Financial Gain
By Richard Luthmann
Maya Moore, a 15-year-old honor student from Florida, finds herself at the center of a contentious custody battle between her father, retired military officer Michael Moore, and her biological mother, whom her father deems dangerous.
Florida Family Court Judge Kristin R. Kanner dismissed allegations of abuse and placed Maya with her mother. The Fort Lauderdale-area judge mandated Maya’s participation in coercive therapy sessions despite objections that these sessions infringe on her human rights. Maya objected to the therapy on fundamental and religious rights grounds to no avail.
These court-ordered therapies not only impose a significant financial burden but have also led to a restraining order against her father, compounding the family's distress.
Amidst this turmoil, Broward County authorities wrongly reported Maya as abducted, sparking a nationwide Amber Alert. It was later clarified that she had not been kidnapped.
Recently, in a letter addressed to Judge Kristin Raybon Kanner of Broward County, Florida, Jill Jones Soderman, Executive Director of the Foundation for Child Victims of the Family Courts (FCVFC), has levied serious accusations against the Family Court system. The letter claims that Maya Moore, an honor student, was forcibly isolated from her father and placed in the custody of her allegedly abusive mother without proper evidence or a hearing under the guidance of Family Court.
According to Soderman, the court has favored financial interests over the child's welfare, exploiting federal funding mechanisms like Title IV D, Aid To Needy and Dependent Children.
"This court has consistently acted with the financial interests...as opposed to the actual best interests of the child," Soderman stated.
Soderman has devoted much of her career to reforming corrupt family court systems and aiding litigants in complex legal battles. As the founder of the FCVFC, she focuses on exposing systemic abuses and offering support to protective parents. Her work emphasizes the need for Family Courts to operate with greater transparency and fairness, advocating for reforms that protect the rights of children and families against institutional bias and judicial corruption.
Through her foundation, Soderman provides crucial resources and guidance to families navigating the often daunting legal landscape of custody disputes.
In Maya Moore’s case, Soderman accuses the Fort Lauderdale-area court of manipulating custody decisions, aligning with her critique of the courts as trafficking children under the guise of legal rulings.
Soderman's letter details Maya's deteriorating condition since the court's intervention, noting her withdrawal from everyday activities and decline in academic performance. Maya’s removal from her father’s care has denied her the right to practice the religion of her choice.
"Prior to the kidnapping and current isolation of Maya Moore with her accused abuser parent, she was an honor student and a young woman enjoying healthy and normal development," Soderman wrote.
She also revealed that Maya had reached out to the FCVFC shortly before her removal, expressing fear and loathing toward her mother and alleging abuse.
The ordeal in the family court system has devastated Maya's father, Captain Michael Moore. According to Soderman, the court's actions have not only separated him from his daughter but also systematically dismantled his life and reputation through what she describes as a "coordinated process of lies and larceny."
The court, influenced by financial motives and dubious theories, allegedly stripped the decorated veteran of his ability to protect Maya, falsely labeling him as an abuser.
“They tagged me an abuser, and the Sheriff came for my guns. Then, my employer terminated me because of the pending violent charges, which are baseless. I served honorably and tried to raise my daughter according to morally solid and religious-based values. None of this matters to the Family Court, and my situation could happen to anyone,” Captain Moore said.
The retaliatory tag has resulted in severe personal and professional repercussions for Captain Moore, leaving him isolated and battling against a powerful system that prioritizes financial incentives over the welfare and unity of families.
The accusations extend to the handling of the case by court-appointed officials, including guardian ad litem Jamie Alman and psychologists like Lisa Saponaro, who Soderman claims were complicit in Maya's forced isolation.
"Maya has described in detail, in writing and in voice recordings, her terror and hatred of her mother and the venomous actors to which she was being forced to meet," the letter states.
Soderman's fiery discourse doesn't stop with the court's actions; it also touches on broader allegations of corruption and malpractice within the Family Court system, suggesting a behavior pattern favoring powerful litigants while disadvantaging the less connected. This narrative is supported by parental advocates David Weigel and Robert Emert, who describe the system as one of "Designer Child Trafficking," where children are separated from protective parents for profit.
The letter warns of impending criminal and civil legal actions against those involved in Maya's case.
Soderman declares, "Further, criminal and civil damages actions will be forthcoming against every single actor in this case...I will be personally advancing exposure of your criminal destructive acts and will be seeking the immediate release of Maya back to her protective parent father."
This case has highlighted Maya Moore's tragedy and ignited a broader debate on the integrity and motivations of Family Courts nationwide. The FCVFC raises critical questions about the balance between legal authority and the exploitation of the vulnerable while under the Family Court’s watch.
