FORT MYERS BEACH, FL – The first day of the 34th Annual American Sand Sculpting Championship at Fort Myers Beach was a spectacular start, with dazzling sculptures, a vibrant crowd, and an atmosphere filled with creativity and fun. Thousands of spectators flocked to the DiamondHead Beach Resort and Old San Carlos Blvd, drawn by awe-inspiring sand art, interactive demos, and live entertainment that continued well into the evening.

The event’s headliners, 8 Master Sculptors and 10 Advanced Amateur Sculptors from around the globe amazed onlookers with their incredible craftsmanship. Day one highlights included intricate designs featuring mythical creatures, towering castles, and surrealist displays carved into the sugar sands of Fort Myers Beach.

“This year’s turnout has been phenomenal,” said Jacki Liszak, President of the Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce. “The energy and artistry here really reflect the resilience and creative spirit of our community.”

Local businesses also embraced the festivities. Bill Ignatti, owner of Wahoo Willie’s, shared his enthusiasm: “This is what Fort Myers Beach is all about—community, creativity, and welcoming people from all over the world to enjoy our little slice of paradise. It’s a great boost for the town.”

Meanwhile, the sculptors themselves reveled in the camaraderie and inspiration of the event. Master sculptor Paul Hoggard from England said, “Sand has this magical way of bringing people together—it’s fleeting, yet unforgettable. To create something extraordinary and then watch others admire it, that’s the beauty of what we do.”

Another competitor, Walter McDonald, aka “Amazin’ Walter,” added, “For me, it’s all about fun and sharing the joy of sandcastles. Seeing people’s faces light up makes all the effort worthwhile.”

The festivities weren’t just about the sculptures. Families and visitors of all ages enjoyed a mix of local vendors, food trucks offering diverse cuisines, and performances by live bands at Bayside Veterans Park. Quick Sand demonstrations drew crowds eager to try their hand at sand sculpting, and children’s play areas ensured there was something for everyone.

With day one setting the stage, attendees can look forward to more breathtaking sculptures, live entertainment, and family-friendly activities throughout the weekend. The American Sand Sculpting Championship is shaping up to be the season’s premier event, cementing Fort Myers Beach as the place to be for art, fun, and sun.
